Update: Dodgeball – The New PE
Mapua, Miriam, to Offer Dodgeball PE Classes Next Sem

Following the success of the Nestle Pops University Dodgeball Games in their campuses, Mapua Institute of Technology- Makati (MIT-Makati) and Miriam College have expressed that they will be offering Dodgeball as a Physical Education class starting next semester, announced Benedict Camara, President of the Philippine Dodgeball Association.

The Nestle Pops University Dodgeball Games is a PDBA-sanctioned clinic-and-tournament series that aims to establish dodgeball PE classes, and MIT-Makati and Miriam College hosted its second and third legs respectively.

With the full support of the MIT-Makati PE Department through Sir Bob Roque and Ma’am Tess Magana, about 800 Mapuans learned and played during the remarkable four-day dodgeball clinic. The top teams from the clinics then competed for the championships on the fifth day of the Mapua leg.

Also backed by its PE Department through SIr Dennis Sajo and Ma’am Grace Bernal was the Miriam College leg, which is the first all-female dodgeball tournament in the country. The one-day event had 16 all-female teams, and featured an insightful faculty training given by the PDBA. The faculty training touched on topics such as the history, rules, proper implementation, social relevance, and future direction of dodgeball.

At the end of both in-campus events, the PDBA, through the sponsorship of Nestle Ice Cream and Rider After Sports Footwear, donated new dodgeballs to the PE departments to help start their PE classes. Winners and lucky participants also took home special prizes from the sponsors and from media partner, Action & Fitness magazine.

Schools who would like to join the Nestle Pops University Dodgeball Games may contact the PDBA at 0922-378-94-93. For more info, please visit www.dodgeballphilippines.org.
